Remuneration and the feedback survey. PPCB General meeting September 7th 3.30pm- yes this Thursday! Catch up in Queenstown. Nau mai, haere mai.

Kia ora PPCB e te Whānau,

This week some of our members have checked their SUE reports looked at the salaries of their DP’s and compared them to their own. It has given a fright in some cases and rightly so. We have decided to share with you some of the work our Strategic Planning Team has done on the remuneration base scale and after feedback will work on it as part of our 2024 negotiations.

Also, below are some reminders, including details about our General Meeting this Thursday. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Remuneration and a feedback survey

At the recent Strategy Action Team meeting we discussed a remuneration package moving forward into negotiations. The key points were:

  • A starting point base salary of $130,000 for all. This is just over the amount a DP with 5 units or a Kahui Across School lead with 2 units will get.

  • Recognising FTTE staffing with a heavier weighting for smaller schools.

  • Recognising experience with payments of more than 9 years. Done in bands of three years up to 19+ years and extra $30000 for experience at that level.

  • Adding Equity payments to all Equity bands. We put in 15 bands of 15 points.

The images below show the start of this work and we are seeking your feedback as a starting point…

We encourage you to discuss this option and a first iteration. We know it is aspirational but we need to start high and be strong about what the job requires to attract good people to stay in schools.

If you missed our 25 August Comms here are the main points:

  • PPCB General meeting September 7th 3.30pm- yes this Thursday

  • Please diary this meeting as we need at least 10% of PPCB members to attend! We are not expecting this to be a long meeting, please look through the linked documents, on our website, so you are prepared to ask any questions in regards to the motion and/or to vote. Following the presentation of the motion we will be confirming the details for our PPCB get-together in Queenstown for those of you going to the NZPF conference.

Variance to the Contract

I have sent a letter to the MOE regarding a variation to our contract:

Formally I would like to request to seek variance in regard to the following points:

In regards to the NZEI differences:

  • Terms of settlement – The Cultural Leadership allowance for principals at $5000

  • 5.2.5 – The LLN increase base from $2320 to $4000

  • The $1500 payment offered to ALL principals in the additional payments of the NZEI settlement

  • Pacific Bilingual Immersion Teaching allowance offered as part of NZEI settlement

Also the changes to Part 4 of our contract to read as follows:

Part Four – Professional Leadership and Growth

4.1 Professional Growth Cycle

4.1.1 The principal shall participate in an annual Professional Growth Cycle and be issued with an annual statement as set out in the Elements for the Professional Growth Cycle for Principals, Tumuaki and ECE Professional Leaders agreed by the profession: https://teachingcouncil.nz/professional-practice/professional-growth-cycle/.

4.2 Clarification of Relationship between Professional Growth Cycle and Performance Processes

4.2.1 The professional Growth Cycle is different to, and shall be kept separate from, any processes relating to the principal’s performance.

I have also sent an OIA to look carefully at concurrence in our schools and see what principals apply for and receive.

  1. Please advise us on the number of primary principals who get concurrence payments in their schools

  2. Please advise us of the reasons and corresponding numbers for the concurrence

  3. Advise us of the range of rates for concurrence
