A wonderful achievement “Mā te Tumuaki, Mō te Tumauki – for Principals, by Principals”
We are thrilled to advise you that we have grown to just over 600 members in the last few days. This is an amazing achievement for our Union as we progress the claims and leadership of our members.
The growth reflects a desire to get on with the mahi we signed up for as Principals. We want to support our teachers and tamariki to be the best they can be.
As a Union that is focussed on collective bargaining, it is important we stay in our lane. This means that curriculum discussions are handled primarily by NZPF as the professional arm of PPCB Tumuaki. Our role to support and advocate.
As a Union, our advocacy includes:
Advocacy Priorities
-
Fair Remuneration and Conditions: Secure competitive pay, recognition for workload complexity, and appropriate allowances.
-
Reasonable Workload and Implementation Timelines: Oppose rushed or unrealistic change rollouts; advocate for timelines enabling effective leadership.
-
Principal Wellbeing and Support: Promote wellbeing measures including sabbaticals, hauora leave, professional support, and stress reduction strategies.
-
Adequate Resourcing: Ensure funding for professional development, leadership release time, and staffing support.
-
Professional Development: Guarantee access to relevant, high-quality learning and mentoring tailored to evolving leadership demands.
-
Policy Influence: Actively represent principals in education policy development, legislative processes, and reforms impacting leadership and student outcomes.
We hope that you continue to share the success of PPCB and let all beginning principals and aspiring principals know who can support them in their role.
We are here and announcing the growth of our Union for all to understand that we represent almost 30% of principals with a growing membership.
Mā te Tumuaki, Mō te Tumauki – for Principals, by Principals.
Nga mihi,
Mark Ellis
